The launching cremony of the “Heritage +” Camp was organised on June 18, 2018, at Berat Municipality Conference Hall. This event was organized by the Municipality of Berat with the support of the “Municipalities for Europe” Project. This activity enjoyed the support and cooperation of other important partners, such as the US Peace Corps, Margarita Craft Center, 'Kristo Isak' Vocational High School and the Organization Cultural Heritage without Borders.

The launching of this camp gathered 60 participants, many of who were representatives from the Municipality of Berat, Civil Society activists of Berat region, representatives of the co-organizing partners as well as 25 young people selected to participate in this Camp.

Mrs. Romana Vlahutin, Ambassador of the European Union to Albania and Mayor of Berat Mr. Petrit Sinaj addressed and welcomed the launching of the Camp for the Restoration of Cultural Heritage in the City of Berat, as an event highlighted also within the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

During the event there was an interactive discussion between the youth and Ambassador Vlahutin and Mayor Sinaj on the role that the heritage plays in the development of tourism and in the preservation and promotion of culture. The participants engaged in an open discussion about the needs and challenges that cultural heritage presents, its preservation and the conveyance to younger generations. During the discussions, young people and representatives of the Civil Society provided their suggestions and opinions regarding the improvement of the city tourism infrastructure. 

The purpose of the Camp, which will be organized throughout a period of two weeks (June 18-30), is the engagement and youth activation in the field of cultural crafts and traditions of the city of Berat and in the field of cultural tourism. For two weeks in a row, young participants will have the opportunity to get familiar with and practice some of the city's traditional activities such as carving wood, carving stone, embroidery, folk dance, frescoes, gardening, traditional cooking, tourist guide etc.
