The tour for the presentation of the Municipal Performance Evaluation Report which the "MfE" project is holding in all 61 municipalities of Albania has stopped at the Municipality of Tirana.

The meeting was moderated by Mr. Genc Kojdheli, Director of Strategic Projects and Economic Development in the Municipality of Tirana, in the presence of Mr. Mario Mariani, Head of the Cooperation Office at the Delegation of the European Union in Tirana, Mr. Orlando Fusco, the Program Officer for Good Governance in the EU Delegation, Mrs. Anisa Ruseti, Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Mrs. Jolanda Trebicka, Project Manager of “Municipalities for Europe, as well as employees of the administration and members of the Municipal Council of Tirana.

Mr. Mariani stressed the importance of the Municipalities’ Performance Reports in the integration process, which, according to him, "should be turned into guidelines for the future, in order to determine where our actions will have to focus. As EU, we have already moved to another level in terms of partnership with the local government. We have a clear message to convey: From today, not just capacity building, technical assistance and trainings. We want to respond directly and immediately to the needs identified by municipalities at the local level, in order to better serve their communities. "This is the reality today and it will be more like this in the future."

Mr. Mariani praised the institutionalization of the network of EU Integration Units, and expressed satisfaction with the work that has been done by these Units. "Today they are EU ambassadors to their communities, and at the same time, ambassadors of these communities to the EU. However, now we can move a step forward and grow already to another level and I think that Tirana can serve as a locomotive. The units have been set up, but now our focus should be on supporting, equipping and empowering them. Because for us, the staffs of these Units will be pioneers of the European agenda in all the Municipalities of Albania”.

The Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Mrs. Anisa Ruseti praised the assistance and cooperation with MfE as an effective tool for fulfilling the obligations of the municipality regarding the integration process. "We have realized that local government is an essential element for meeting European standards, and we are aware that there is still a lot of work to be done in this regard. Reporting, improving our performance, providing better services to our citizens, are all areas where we need to focus and further consolidate the cooperation between us.”

Further on, Ms. Jolanda Trebicka, Head of "Municipalities for Europe", an EU-funded project, made a presentation of the findings and recommendations of the performance report, which were laid out in the form of a discussion with the participants, while the MfE experts made also a presentation of the funding opportunities provided by the European Union for Albania.
