On 14th and 15th of November 2022, the 2-day TAIEX Workshop was held in Shkodër, on the "Support for Local Government to prepare and mitigate multiple risks".
The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of Albania and the Agency for the Support of Local Self-Government, supported by "Municipalities for Europe", a project financed by the European Union and ASPA.
The purpose of this Workshop is to share with representatives of the Albanian municipalities the experience of EU's best practices for integrated disaster risk management and the creation of a system of sustainability, with a harmonized and coherent approach between the central and local level of governance.
During the 2-day duration of the Workshop, important critical issues were addressed such as how to keep government and essential services functioning in times of crisis, how to implement temporary housing or how to restore essential economic activity.
TAIEX experts from Italy, Mr. Agostino Goretti, DRM Seismic Expert, Civil Defense Italy, Mr. Marco Massabò, DRM Flood Expert, Cima Foundation (Italy) and Ms. Marina Trentin, Recovery and Adaptation experts, shared their knowledge on preparing for and mitigating natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, droughts and heat waves.
Participating the event were also Mr. Gersi Çabiri, Agency for the Support of Local Self-Government and Mrs. Adisa Bala, from the National Agency of Civil Protection, as co-leader of the Workshop.
In addition to the sharing experts' knowledge, the Workshop saw also an exchange of experiences with representatives of sectors and directorates that cover civil emergencies in local government bodies (the first group, with representatives of the municipalities of northern Albania).
The next 2-day session will be held in Berat, on November 17-18, 2022.
