On January 31, 2018, the EU Corner in Kukës Municipality, in cooperation with the City Hall, organized the activity with the theme “European Tree Day”.
The city of Kukes preserves its ancient and rich ethno-cultural tradition, the cult of the Tree, which has special meaning and symbolism that drives people and society towards the most important activities of their lives.
Although newly constructed during the communist regime, erected with concrete and cement formations, this city never lost its soul, did not lose contact with Nature and its alteration and regenerative power, with the surrounding mountains, with forests and rivers.
In this context, the “Tree”, greenery, reforestation of the interior and exterior space of the city, are revitalized as a tradition and are being transformed day by day into the symbol of the restoration of this city.
As a matter of fact, every year this city organizes the “Tree Day”, a very significant activity that coincides with the European day of the tree. In this event there were some special guests such as the Ambassador of the Republic of Israel in Albania, Mr. Boaz Rodkin and the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to our country, Ms. Lea Staniçiç.
The Mayor, Mr. Bashkim Shehu welcomed the ambassadors on such a special visit to the municipal premises and then accompanied them to a visit to the Kukes Ethnographic Museum where he provided infortaion on the history and the traditional costumes of the area.
Together with other representatives of the city, each planted tree was given a special meaning, which will henceforth symbolize the values and desires of the citizens of Kukes, where the country's European integration tree stands out as one of the aspirations and its greatest expectations.
