CITY COUNCILORS FOR ONE DAY!
PATOS, 9th of May - In the framework of “Europe Day” celebrations, the European Integration and Foreign Assistance Coordination Unit in the Municipality of Patos, in cooperation with the city’s best high school students, organized a simulated City Council meeting. Attending the meeting were the Mayor, the Chairman of the Council and the city Secretary, who explained to the young “councilors” how the meetings are organized, what are its functions and the role that citizens play in these meetings, along with the importance of informing the community on the Councils activities.
“Youth is the main driving force of the society, therefore the dream for the European family has their face” said Mayor Bilalaj, while urging the youth to embrace the European values, which are at the center of “Europe Week’s” celebrations this year, such as civic engagement and volunteering.
The last topic on the agenda for the meeting was the voting on the draft-proposal for a “Solidarity Package for the City’s Third Aged People, which was approved unanimously.
The Integration Unit, along with the student senators of the high schools that “approved” this Solidarity Package at the City Council meeting, visited the City’s Retirement Club, serving them at their game tables.
Europe has a history of over 70 years, a dream that started when these third aged people were youngsters, that’s why the message of today is loud and clear: We are close to realizing this dream!
