The 'Municipalities for Europe' project, in cooperation with the EU Corner of Prrenjas and the municipality jointly organized on 24 April, 2018 the activity “Integration comes from us – We Can Influence the Changes!” A Public Event on Women Prospective in future European Albania. This event was organised under the auspices of the Mayor of Prrenjas Ms. Miranda Rira. Its aim was to foster the debates on the gender equality issues and discuss on the challenges that women in Albania are facing in their daily activity and their life.
The event includes several activities starting from inauguration of a new kindergarten in the city of Prrenjas, open debate with citizens and the craft fair offered to citizens and guests (representatives of the government, MPs of the region, European Union Delegation to Tirana officials, local authorities etc .) the opportunity to get acquainted with the local traditional products, as a value coming from the old tradition of Prrenjas and was concluded with some folk music performed by the pupils of the Prrenjas schools.
The distinguished personality that attended by the event: President of Republic Mr Ilir Meta, Mrs Klajda Gjosha, the former Minister of European Integration and Mr Mario Mariani, the Head of Operation of the European Delegation in Albania expressed their appreciation that women role on the society was chosen as the topic of the event.
In its address the President of Republic Mr Ilir Meta, emphasised that the role of women in the society and politics is vital. He mentioned that Albania’s progress towards integration into European family depends also on the role and active engagement of women on the economic and social development of Albania.
The former Minister of Integration MS Klajda Gjosha mentioned that despite positive of progress, made in Albania there is much more to do, especially in informing all citizens for EU Integration, their role and opportunities that Albania will have to develop more and more! She said that “women play their active role on building a democratic society and education of young generation. Women involvement in politics and administration is crucial”.
Mr Mario Mariani, from the EU Delegation reiterated the message of the event emphasising “Integration of Albania in European Union comes from you! This is an important topic of discussions you have chosen. Gender Equality and empowerment of women and girls are fundamental human rights. Both are vital for economic growth, prosperity and competitiveness. Gender equality is an essential precondition for equitable and inclusive sustainable development, which will not take place if half of the population in Albania is left behind.
He also encouraged the EU Local coordinators that “in cooperation with the staff at the Delegation, to discuss with citizens about the EU policies on gender equality. Use the materials that are put in place by our team to inform the citizens (men and women), to make them aware of the role that the EU is giving to promote inclusion and quality. We know that changes takes time, but if efforts and energy is put in place we -together will contribute to changing the cultural norms, behaviors and the situation”.
