On 10 October, 2019, the representative of the European Integration and Foreign Assistance Coordination Unit together with the fifth grade students of the “Urani Rumbo” school in Gjirokastra hosted in the premises of the Municipality, an information day on all the important sectors for the administration of the institution. The students talked to tax unit staff, where they learned about tax collection and how they are further translated into services, emergency and finance unit, where they learned how local government strategies prioritize the development of standards for teaching facilities but also for sports and relaxation facilities for children.
The students were also welcomed to the EU office in Gjirokastra Municipality, where after being introduced to all the functions of the office and the projects it implements, they expressed their desire and enthusiasm to become an active part of its awareness raising activities. All students completed 10 forms on awareness and recycling practices in the city, as part of a cross-border project that the municipality of Gjirokastra is implementing for waste and recycling management in their families and social circles.
As part of their Citizenship class hours, at the end of the day students met also with the Mayor, where they not only didn’t spare their criticisms but also expressed their vision on the city spaces and their desires for which professions they would prefer to have as they grew up.
