May 14th 2019 – The European integration and Foreign Assistance Coordination Unit in the Municipality of Mirdite, in the framework of “Europe Week” organized an activity on “The Municipality of the Youth”.
Participants in the activity were 25 high school students and 2 representatives of the city council. This simulation was characterized by an information session on decision making in local level, followed by the positioning of the youth as City Councilors, for the experience of being the decision makers and political actors for one day. This initiative was inspired by the approach and core principles of the European Union Youth Strategy 2019 – 2027, which consists in Inclusion – Interconnection – Empowerment.
Based on these values and objectives, the representative of the European Integration Unit, Borana Pepa, engaged the young “advisors” to initiate the drafting of a Local Youth Action Plan. The discussion held in this context turned out to be very lively and fruitful, as all participants were actively engaging with one another for a successful result of the meeting. The proposed ideas were very different and original, and the group of students took upon themselves to present the final draft in the next meeting with the Mayor. This activity was based on the main theme chosen by the European Delegation for Europe Week: The Power of Youth.
The European Integration and foreign Assistance Coordination Unit in the Municipality of Mirdite is committed to keep the youth as the core focus of its work, believing in their potential as agents of positive change in the community.
