Within the framework of the European Union Green Week: "www.eugreenweek.eu - an international event celebrated throughout Europe", the EU Desk in Tepelenë in cooperation with the Municipalities for Europe Project organized a thematic debate, on the green potentials of the Tepelena region and opportunities for development of cultural tourism in this city.

This meeting was attended by Mr. Termet Peçi, Mayor Tepelena, Mrs. Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi, Minister of Culture, Mr. Bledi Çuçi, Member of the Parliament of Albania, Mr. Dorian Koçi, Director of the National Historical Museum, Prof. Dr. Ardit Bido, Director of the Central State Archives, as well as many other personalities from the field of agro - tourism and cultural tourism businesses, civil society and free professionals, people of art and culture.

This activity focused on the promotion of nature, tradition and cultural tourism in the Tepelena region by combining together, the “Ali Pasha Tepelena Week”, the “European Green Week” and the “European Year of Cultural Heritage”.

During her speech Mrs. Kumbaro said that there can be no preservation of green heritage and environment in any city of the country if the citizens themselves do not strongly protect the nature, the environment and every precious resource that has been inherited over the centuries. She mentioned the work done for the restoration of the Ali Pasha Fortress in Tepelenë, a monument that does not only contribute to the city's appearance but above all as an attractive place to be bring to the city local and foreign tourists.

Numerous speakers in this debate offered to the public important commentaries with respect to cultural heritage of Tepelena and the need to efficient use of its natural tourism potentials and rich cultural heritage.

This thematic meeting was followed by a joint visit to the local area products fair as well as an expedition to the Bënça region for visiting the aqueduct built centuries ago by Ali Pasha.
