The assessment report “Municipalities of Albania in the EU Integration Process’ for the year 2019 was presented today at the on-Line monthly meeting of the Consultative Council.
This exercise has been initiated in 2017 with the support of the EU-funded project ‘Municipalities for Europe’ and is now run on a yearly basis by the Ministry of Interior / Agency for Local Government Support with the contribution of all municipalities. ‘Findings of this report are significant as local government deals with the implementation of over 70 per cent of the EU acquis’ said Mr Orlando Fusco, Programme Manager for Good governance at the EU Delegation to Albania, adding that ‘its recommendations are even more useful as the whole point of this exercise is to help the municipal performance to improve over time’.
To advance further the decentralization agenda and the local contribution to the EU integration process of the country, the EU Delegation is now supporting through the Urban Research Institute (URI) also the institutional dialogue in the Consultative Council itself. In particular, local government will be provided support in formulating and advocating positions beneficial to the local communities. The project will last for an initial period of 12 months, is currently in its inception phase, and solicited views and suggestions on how to best shape such assistance.
